How I Became an Audio Engineer in Nashville

Born and raised in Batavia, NY, a small town in between Buffalo and Rochester, I've been involved in music as long as I can remember. Growing up, my parents always had this beat-up, yet in-tune, old upright piano and a record player in the back room of our house. I don't ever remember learning how to play it, I always just played the melodies that I heard on the record player. My piano skills never developed very far but it was my "gateway instrument". Around age 12 I picked up the guitar and I couldn't put it down. My first guitar was a cheap JC Penney acoustic that my parents had bought for my oldest sister in the mid-80s. This lead to playing in a countless number of local bands, most notably, the power-pop rock foursome "Joey Vicious". After being in the studio a few times with these bands I started recording on my own. After a few years and a bunch of records, I decided that engineering and producing was for me.

This is when I moved to Nashville where I started my new career interning at the world famous Masterfonics (formerly Emerald Entertainment). After paying my dues for a while I started assisting on sessions at studios all around town. While assisting I picked up some tricks from some of the best engineers in town and kept expanding my career by doing my own sessions whenever I had spare time.

These days I'm booking myself solid. I've worked with some great people so far and hope to work with many more for years to come.
